I want to install a security camera system for my business. I would like to record audio with these
cameras as well. Is it legal to record audio too?

Additional Details:
I am located in California. I was wondering if I am allowed to record audio this way or if it is
against the law? Are there any special things I am supposed to do to make it legal such as posting
signs or informing employees?
Legal Topic Area: Business Law in CA

The California Penal Code prohibits surreptitious recording of audio when there is an expectation of privacy. You can likely defeat this expectation with a prominent notice in your business regarding the use of both audio and video recording. There is no case law directly on point of which I am aware. This is not legal advice. Consult your own attorney regarding your plans.
