Should I Hire A Lawyer To Help Me Incorporate Or Form An LLC? Thomas Pedreira
Q.
Is there any difference between me setting up & filing for an LLC with the state and having a lawyer file the papers for me? If so, please explain.

You can certainly do it yourself. Or you could go to an online legal center and do it on the cheap there, too. A concern always exists when doing it yourself, though, that you will fail to take advantage of some of the reasons why you incorporated or formed an LLC. For example, if you fail to follow all necessary formalities to perfect the organization, you may lose the benefits of limited liability that you were likely seeking in the first place. You may also mess up some of your tax elections and unforeseen tax consequences in this area can be catastrophic. In short, it will cost you more to go to a lawyer up front, but it may cost you a lot less down the road on potential legal issues that you may not fully understand or appreciate at this point. Even though they may be able to get by without it, sophisticated business people recognize the value of competent legal advice.
