Owing Back Taxes? You May Be Lucky This Year

About 12 states have instituted short-term amnesty programs for people owing state taxes from
previous years. The states include CA, Arizona, Alabama, and Delaware. Some 10 to 15 states are
proposing similar bills such as New York, Washington DC and Illinois.
About 10 of the 12 states waived penalties and eight waived all or part of interest taxpayers owed on back taxes.
States in dire need of money, are seeking to lure taxpayers with leniency and lucrative programs to at least partially fill their coffers.
So, if you owe any state taxes, now should be the time to pay it off. But, the reality is in this economic condition, this rather lucrative incentive to taxpayers might not yield a satisfactory result.
